Meet The Team

Thang Tran

Founder

Dr. Thang Tran is a distinguished microprocessor architect whose innovative approach has advanced the field of CPU technology over a career spanning more than four decades. Currently, he leads as founder and Chief Technology Officer at Simplex Micro in Austin, Texas, where he is at the forefront of developing unique RISC-V Vector Processor IP. His work focuses on leveraging extensive research and patented technologies to redefine high-performance computing standards.

Concurrent with his impactful role at Simplex, he is also serving as Chief Technology Officer at Condor Computing Corporation in Austin, Texas. At Condor, he is driving the development of a revolutionary Out-of-Order (OOO) superscalar RISC-V microprocessor, enhancing the computing landscape with over 10 filed patents aimed at creating scalable, low-power, and high-performance processors.

Previously, at Andes Technology Corporation, he led the design of the first RISC-V Vector Processor, the AndesCore NX27V, which was integrated into Meta's MTIA chip. This work not only earned the "Hsinchu Science Park Innovative Product Award" but also received the "Outstanding Product Performance of the Year" from ASPENCORE World Electronics Achievement Awards.

Before his groundbreaking work in RISC-V technology, he was a Senior Microprocessor Architect & Manager at Texas Instruments, where he managed the micro-architecture and RTL for ARM - Cortex A8 and served as a design manager for ASIP technology. He also made significant contributions at AMD as an AMD Fellow & Front-End Manager, where he was instrumental in the development of the ATHLON processors and other key projects.

Dr. Tran holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and is a prolific speaker, serving both as a lecturer and as a conference presenter. His recent acquisition of 22 patents and his leadership in the field have solidified his reputation as a foremost expert in microprocessor architecture, continually pushing the technological envelope.

David Witt

President

David has 40+ years of experience in microprocessor architecture with more than 80 patents granted. He's been involved with many microprocessors, including Motorola 68K, AMD x86, Analog Devices DSP, ARM, and now RISC-V. David has held many different positions, from architecture manager, World-wide Director of Engineering and Vice President.

Paul Miller

Senior Fellow of Architecture and Design

Paul brings a wide range of experience in Floating Point and Vector Processors. Recently, Paul applied his talents to team management and the design of shader cores for Apple mobile products, as well as the design and build of the CortexA8 Neon SIMD processor. Earlier in his career, he designed RTL and circuitry for a variety of microprocessors, including the AMD 29K, IBM 620, AMD Athlon, and an FPU for Centaur Technology. He is now excited about creating a new RISC V vector processor architecture for SimplEx Micro.

Hoang Hau

Design manager

Hoang is a hands-on technical leader and design manager for microprocessor and ASIC. He had 14+ years of experience at Vietnam National University IC Design Center (ICDREC) and Ampere Computing. His major accomplishments include the first Vietnamese 8-bit microcontroller SigmaK3, the first Vietnamese superscalar out-of-order microprocessor VN1632, and ARM CHI home agent. Hoang strives in building optimal design and he joins Simplex Micro to design the best-in-class vector processor.
